The Magic of Reality - Richard Dawkins (Unabridged Audiobook)

"I wanted to write this book but I wasn't clever enough. Now I've read it, I am"
—Ricky Gervais

"Exhilarating. The clearest and most beautifully written introduction to science I've ever read. Again and again I found myself saying "Oh! So that's how genes work!" (or stars, or tectonic plates, or all the other things he explains). Explanations I thought I knew were clarified; things I never understood were made clear for the first time. My favourite adjective of praise has always been "clear", and this book has clarity all the way through."
—Philip Pullman, author of The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ and the His Dark Materials trilogy

Throughout history people all over the world have invented stories to answer profound questions such as these. Have you heard the tale of how the sun hatched out of an emu's egg? Or what about the great catfish that carries the world on its back? Has anyone ever told you that earthquakes are caused by a sneezing giant? These fantastical myths are fun – but what is the real answer to such questions?

The Magic of Reality, with its explanations of space, time, evolution and more, will inspire and amaze listeners of all ages - young adults, adults, children, octogenarians. This book presents the real story of the world around us, taking us on an enthralling journey through scientific reality, and showing that it has an awe-inspiring beauty and thrilling magic which far exceed those of the ancient myths.

Read by Richard Dawkins and Lalla Ward. Also available in hardback, fully illustrated by Dave McKean. Amazon

"The ugly and the stupid have the best of it in this world.
They can sit at their ease and gape at the play.
If they know nothing of victory,
they are at least spared the knowledge of defeat."

Reflection:
obvious, and yet so true... and mindbending.

The Ledge (2011)

The Ledge has been called the Brokeback Mountain for atheists, but that's not exactly true. Although there is a conflict between faith and reason, the film is a human drama revolving around tragic stories. Sure, it should be appreciated to offer an intelligent, and arguably likable (and talkative) atheist main character (and it doesn't cheat the viewer on this one) but the film never goes to deep, only presents the common arguments. So some arguments from the atheist side are a bit cliche and their only purpose is to serve the schematic writing. Not only dialogues, such as tender gay housemate of the main character is a stereotypical, and it's there for the homophobic neighbour. Luckily, some humor and small touches do the job well. A fundamentalist as an antagonist makes both main characters too much black and white and makes the plot unrealistic. However the film tells that atheist or not, we all are the victims of our miserable lives and even a non-believer can save the day!

So if you watched it, what do you think?

quality time in the bathtub

Soon, people are gonna come and renovate the apartment.
And we are gonna get a shower. Instead of our lovely bathtub. :(
So I try to enjoy every moment in the bathtub.
Oh dear, I am going to miss our bathtub. :(

Leave of Absence

The Catholic Knight will be taking an extended leave of absence from the blogosphere effective immediately. To my loyal readers I am sorry. To those who despise my work, please know it will remain in the Internet indefinitely.

I want to thank you all for your support, emails, comments and most of all your prayers. Please know that I would not leave you without good reason. I covet only your continued prayers and I ask that you take what I've tried to give you all and build upon it, in whatever capacity the Lord has given you.

As of this date, The Catholic Knight blog registers about one-thousand unique visitors a day. About four-hundred of you are regular readers and frequently return. I am so glad to have reached so many and I feel honoured that you let my words be a part of your lives for so long.

I may be back someday, but I don't know when or how. Some of you know this has been a long time coming. I first announced this intention almost a year ago. The time has come now for me to tend to other business, much of it family related. God bless you all, and thank you for the privilege of letting me write for you.

In HIS Majesty's Service,

HOW TO FIGHT THE NEW WORLD ORDER

  1. PRAY - Only God can deliver us from our enemies.
  2. Get involved in your local parish church -- stay involved!
  3. Get your kids out of government schools (use private, religious or home school instead.)
  4. Turn off the television, and limit TV time.
  5. Don't watch or listen to corporate/government news (CNN, FoxNews, ABC, NBC, CBS, New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, etc.)
  6. Get your news from selected private (non-corporate owned) news agencies, blogs and publications on the Internet and from short-wave radio.
  7. Buy everything you can from locally owned businesses.  (Avoid "big-box" superstores and large franchise chains.)
  8. Invest your money in a local credit union or savings and loan.  (Do not use banks!)
  9. Always vote for politicians and laws that uphold SUBSIDIARITY as their guiding principle.
  10. Join local (peaceful & non-violent) Christian movements that strive for political independence and secession from larger super-states.
  11. Connect with others culturally and try to rebuild the Christian culture of your local ancestors.
  12. GET THE WORD OUT and tell others about these twelve steps to fighting the New World Order.
These twelve steps may be copied and distributed freely.

Sushi for my darling

Here are some photos from yesterday. When we went
computer shopping.
 Sara had Sushi.
She is smiling, I wonder if it is because of the computer
or the sushi. Maybe both?

Saras new mac book air! (PART 3) Last part

Great shot of Sara and her mac (and her apples).
yeah, this isn't a photo montage, she was hungry and got some
apple slices.
We started laughting when we noticed the funny thing about it.
MacBook air 11 inch is really slim and small.
This will make things easier for her in her studies.
Doesn't my blog look good on a mac too?

and thats it. I will post a few more pictures from the shopping mall,
and what I bought soon.

Saras new mac book air! (PART 2)

Here are some more photos of Sara and her new Mac book air.
Going from PC to mac is not easy.
 But it looks DAMN good.
 She was excited.
But as I said, its not easy.
Still simply put, it is a lot easier on a mac than on a PC.
The moment you turn it on for the first time, it works, and you can use it.

I will post some more pictures soon.

Saras new mac book air!

So Sara now has the mac book air 11 Inch.
I told her that she could have any computer she wants.
And this is the one she picked?
Which is funny because often she used to say that
she would never sell her soul to the devil.
Well, I guess technically she never did, since I bought it. :)

More pictures will be uploaded soon.

Before going shopping

Since Saras computer has gone Kaput, I borrowed her my Ipad.
And I was sort of excited about her experience of it.
So I sneaked up on her this morning. Just to catch a flash of it.
And here is what happened.

Here she is. Drinking coffee and playing with my Ipad.

Tommy: "How is it going love, do you like using the Ipad?"
Tommy: "isn't it amazing?"
Sara:   "Can I get more coffee?"
Tommy:   :(

going shopping today

Today we are going shopping. Around these parts were I live there is this gigantic shopping mall called Väla centrum. This is where most people in southern Sweden go shopping. They got everything, a Hugo boss store (!) :), 30 restaurants etc. Sky is the limit.

And as it happens, I need new pants. And Saras computer is not working properly. So I am going to buy her a new lap top. Only thing I require from it, is that it has a I5 processor, the layout and design I leave to Sara, it will be her computer.
yes, of course my model photos are in väla. ;)
You know, Sara is very lucky. Not only does she have a rich boyfriend that loves buying her things, but I happen to know a lot about computers. Some would say that it is a curse, and I would agree. Because when you know a a lot about computers, people everywhere ask and need help. And you know, it is not that I don't like to help people. But it is like. Lets say you know a lot about cleaning, and people keep asking you the clean their stuff. Do you know what I mean?
Just because you are good at something, doesn't mean you like doing it. I think computers take up so much of my time, because I always have to fix something and it bothers me. That is why I want a mac, less problems.

I hope it will be a nice day. And I wish the same to you! :)

ps. I will of course post pictures from today later.
